About StarCon General Contractors

StarCon General Contractors has been building and renovating homes, as well as building and improving commercial properties since 1993. We specialize in custom designs which call for creativity and attention to detail. StarCon maintains constant communication with the architect, designer and the property owner to help foresee problems before they occur. This also helps to insure a beautiful finished product completed on time and within budget.

StarCon has a strong group of subcontractors, all of whom have been working with us for many years. Because of StarCon’s long relationship with its subcontractors, we receive a high level of quality and performance. All of our subcontractors are required to have Worker’s Compensation insurance (as required by law) and General Liability insurance. StarCon is also insured with $2,000,000 of coverage and additional coverage is available when needed.

StarCon also offers complete design and architectural services. We work closely with our architect during the design and drawing phases to assure an accurate plan, and to keep construction costs in line with budget requirements.

A Little Background

The president of the company, Steven Margolis, has 30 years of experience in the construction industry. His first five years were spent running and coordinating hotel additions and renovations for the company who owned Ramada and Howard Johnson hotel chains, and many Sheraton and Marriott hotels. This experience covered twenty-four cities and eight states. He then came back to Los Angeles to start StarCon. Steve’s  attention to detail, organizational skills, and his creativity, are what has helped make StarCon the successful company that it is today.

Gary Murphy is StarCon’s project superintendent and has been with us since our inception. His 32 years of experience enables him to anticipate potential problems, and gives him the foresight to schedule construction projects smoothly. His skills are many and diverse. He is a master framer and carpenter as well as an expert tile installer. Some of his other talents include window and door installation, drywall, plumbing, roofing, masonry, concrete forming, setting structural steel, and diagnosing water intrusion problems. Gary is well liked and respected by our subcontractors.
